Excessive Sweating

Excessive sweating can be a frustrating and confidence-impacting concern for many people. Whilst sweating is a natural and necessary bodily function, it can go beyond what the body needs for temperature control and can interfere with daily life, social situations and personal comfort. At Define Clinic, we understand how disruptive this can feel and offer discreet, effective solutions to help you feel more in control of your body and more comfortable in your skin.

Conditions

Many people delay seeking help for excessive sweating, believing it is something they simply have to live with. The reality is that this is a common medical condition and highly treatable with the right expertise and technology.

What Is Excessive Sweating?

Excessive sweating, also known as hyperhidrosis, is a condition where the body produces more sweat than necessary, even in cool temperatures or at rest. This condition most commonly affects the underarms, hands, feet and face, but it can occur anywhere on the body.

There are two main types: primary hyperhidrosis, which has no clear underlying cause and often begins in younger years, and secondary hyperhidrosis, which can be linked to medical conditions or medications. Regardless of the type, excessive sweating can be unpredictable and difficult to manage with standard deodorants or lifestyle changes alone.

Causes & Symptoms

The causes of this condition vary from person to person. In many cases, the sweat glands become overactive due to overactive nerve signals. Genetic factors can also play a role, with excessive sweating sometimes running in families.

The effects of this condition can be triggered by factors such as stress, anxiety, spicy foods, caffeine, hormonal changes and warm environments, which can overstimulate the sweat glands and worsen symptoms.

Common symptoms and signs include:

  • Sweat appearing without physical exertion.
  • Damp or soaked clothing, particularly in the underarm area.
  • Slippery palms or soles of the feet.
  • Facial sweating that interferes with makeup or skincare.
  • Skin irritation or infections caused by prolonged moisture.
  • Avoidance of certain clothing colours or fabrics due to visible sweat patches.

These symptoms can affect confidence and quality of life, but effective treatment options are available.

I had the MiraDry treatment last month after a long-standing hyperhidrosis condition and the whole experience was fantastic from start to end. Dr Benji Dhillon was very personable in the video consultation and made me feel at ease and confident that this was the right step to take. The treatment itself was straightforward, carried out by Dr Dhillon and Ashleigh Sullivan, who were both great company during the rather lengthy procedure. It’s been a month now since my treatment and the results have been, without exaggeration, perfect, so I’m delighted and very grateful to the Define Clinic team for their quality, professional service. Thank you!

I had a Miradry treatment with Dr Dhillon about 6 weeks ago now. The idea of not needing to bother with deodorant, which irritates my skin, and not having to think about the colour or material I wear to work is great. Dr Dhillon and his aesthetician explained the whole procedure to me, and although it’s a pretty weird experience, made me feel very comfortable, informed and assured throughout. It has worked brilliantly, and I’m facing the summer with confidence! Benji has a fantastic “bedside manner” and has the patience of a saint in terms of explaining procedures to his patients. I have already recommended several friends, and would not hesitate to do so in the future. Define Clinic is a beautiful addition to Beaconsfield, and I wish them well in their future.
